Alexithymia Therapy in Austin, TX
Life in ATX moves at a rapid pace. People are constantly coming and going, and it’s easy to feel lost in the crowd. While you may feel like just another person among the many, you are a unique individual with your own struggles, challenges, joys, and triumphs. If you experience alexithymia, you may find it difficult to identify and describe your emotions. You may also find that it creates an obstacle to communicating and connecting with others.
Helping people process these complexities is one of my specialties, and I have had the privilege of working with clients just like you from across the Lone Star State. Our sessions will provide a supportive environment where you can learn and practice practical tools and strategies that can have a significant impact in all areas of your life. Together we’ll build your confidence so you can authentically connect with the people in your life. The journey of life can be challenging, but you don’t need to do it alone.
What happens inside when somebody asks you how do you feel?
Have you been in a room full of people who are having strong reactions about a movie and you sit and wonder how they have so much to say?
Have you experienced a moment that is socially seen as touching or important and you know it’s a good thing, but other than that, there’s a blank wall - not much to say about it?
You are not alone, and we have a possible name for it.
You may be experiencing “alexithymia”. The word describes the experience of having difficulty describing the inner experience.
I love working with people who rely on thinking, analysis, or logic but when it comes to feeling, they are confused, foggy, or unclear. Sometimes feelings are there. Other times, there just aren’t any, and that’s okay too.
If you are someone who wants to explore and learn how to switch from thinking to feeling and even be able to identify a feeling or two, I’m your gal.
Through my clinically proven approach, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, we’ll practice self-compassion and radical self-acceptance of the parts we don’t quite know yet, and especially if there are parts that you don’t like.
