Therapy for Parents of LGBTQIA+ Children in Austin, TX

LGBTQ Therapy in Austin, TX

A welcoming and supportive environment, providing care for the carers

I support parents who have a child who has come out as LGBTQIA+.

Raising a child who identifies as LGBTQIA+ is a life filled with unique joys and complex stressors. But in the middle of school meetings, appointments, identity discovery, your work and household chores, who is supporting you?

Do any of these feelings sound familiar to you?

  • Above all, you love and adore your child more than you ever thought was possible. Sometimes your heart aches with intense love for them.

  • You want to feel sure about the guidance you give to your kid, but you aren’t sure you’re doing the right thing, ever. This is a nagging and taxing reality.

  • You want your child to be healthy, and strong, and thriving - living their best life!

  • You probably want to be able to rest and have a break from worrying.

  • Maybe you want to experience three days in a row when your child comes home from school feeling ok and not totally frazzled.

  • Or, you want to feel acceptance of your child, but there are feelings of confusion and conflict getting in the way.

  • You were very sure about the kind of parent you wanted to be, but now that feels like a distant memory and you’re not proud of some things you’ve said or done.

  • You want to have a close connection with your child.

Oftentimes, you hit the pillow exhausted and that’s when the scary thoughts start scrolling through your mind

What if I say the wrong thing and it instantly alienates us?

Did I ruin it forever?

How can I educate myself to be able to prepare for the future?

What if I call them by their deadname?

Will they ever forgive me?

How do I support my child when there are family members or even a spouse who not accept their identity?

WHAT WE’LL DO TOGETHER

Counseling for parents of LGBTQIA+
children can help you:

Advocate for your child

You are the best advocate for your child. But you need to be able to process, too. I provide a safe space for you to be heard. A therapeutic environment where you can practice new tools that give you more clarity and help you to connect with your kids.

Say the hard things

I provide a deeply supportive environment where parents don’t have to be afraid to voice their true feelings, like grief or confusion, without judgement. Together, we’ll work through all of them, so that you can connect with your children even more authentically than you have before.

Practice self-compassion

I see you — you’re out there doing your best. This can be tough. Through our therapeutic counseling, we’ll help you develop tools to practice your self-compassion skills. By building a better connection with yourself, you’ll be able to authentically connect with your children in a way that makes you proud.

Together, we'll get to know what's going on inside, causing you anxiety or stress. Then we’ll work on building a better connection with your child.
